SPRINGTHORPE WINS NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARDS
12 March 2004 - Springthorpe, a $250 million Urban Pacific development,
has been awarded the National Excellence Award for Residential
Development, by the Urban Development Institute of Australia
(UDIA). At a major ceremony on the Gold Coast, Urban Pacific
Limited (UPL) received prestigious industry recognition for
the development of the ‘Springthorpe Master Planned Community’.
Springthorpe won the national
title from entries from every state across the country, after
winning the Victorian category last year. The judges said that
Urban Pacific achieved “more than a residential subdivision,”
with Springthorpe, creating a “community of homes in a superb
landscape, a great deal of open space and a community heart in
the form of the Springthorpe Country Club.”
Urban Pacific Limited (UPL) is
a wholly owned subsidiary of Macquarie Bank Ltd and has residential
developments underway across three Australian states, developing
more than 6,300 new lots.
The UDIA awards are aimed at promoting
excellence within the industry. UPL also won awards in these categories
at the Victorian titles in November 2003.
UPL General Manager in Victoria,
Colin Boulton believes Springthorpe won because it represents
the future direction of development design and also because of
its innovative lifestyle features.
“Creating Springthorpe was
all about integration and harmony. We took great care to address
ecological issues responsibly and as a result have been able to
maintain many environmental and heritage features which make the
area unique.”
“Coupled with exclusive
facilities like the Country Club, UPL’s design has proven
popular with not only the judges but also the many new residents
who are now calling Springthorpe home.”
Springthorpe is a 73 hectare site located 14 kilometres from Melbourne
in the northern suburb of Macleod. Cox Architects and Planners,
designed Springthorpe to create a unique environment featuring
exclusive designs, natural setting and an integrated solution
to housing.
The project features a unique
architectural style in the Lloyd Wright genre, significant retention
and enhancement of native flora and fauna; community facilities
such as a Country Club and extensive walking trails and integration
with the La Trobe University academic campus.
Originally planned for completion
in 2007, Springthorpe’s progress has been accelerated to
match growing demand and is now due to be finished by the end
of 2004.
The Urban Development Institute
of Australia’s Excellence Awards are designed to pay tribute
to quality development of land and associated housing.
